Thank you for joining us, Sergio. To start, could you tell us a little about yourself and share what brought you to the Netherlands?
Thank you for having me. My name is Sergio, and I’m from Colombia. I’m a Software Engineer specialized in Pega. I came to the Netherlands in search of new projects and challenges within the Pega market, as well as opportunities to grow both my technical and leadership skills. That’s what brought me here, along with my family.

I first heard about Unity Staffing Group on LinkedIn when Tommy reached out to me about a new opportunity. I was already looking for jobs abroad, and I appreciated the way he communicated with me. He was very transparent about the changes I would face and the challenges ahead. That honesty meant a lot to me.
Additionally, the company and the job offer itself were very appealing. The Netherlands is a highly multicultural country, which was also an important factor for my family. I have a young child, and I saw this as a great opportunity for him to grow up in such an environment, learn new languages, and build a future here.

You have been incredibly helpful from the start. You assisted me with booking my flights and even covered the costs. Finding a house in the Netherlands can be quite difficult, but thanks to your support, we were able to secure a great place. That made a huge difference for my family.

That’s very nice to hear, it was a pleasure to help you! Were there any challenges you faced during your transition to the Netherlands?
There were a few small challenges, but nothing major. One of the biggest was the amount of specific documentation required for my role. I wasn’t used to dealing with international paperwork like that, so it was a bit overwhelming at first.
However, you were always available to guide me through the process, helping with translations and ensuring everything was done correctly. Thanks to your support, everything went smoothly from the beginning.
Lastly, what stood out to you the most about your journey with Unity Staffing Group?
What stood out the most was your expertise in the entire relocation process. I had no prior experience moving abroad, so your knowledge and guidance gave me the confidence to take this step.

I’m happy to hear that! Now that you’ve settled into your new role, let’s reflect on the impact of this journey. How has your experience at Rabobank been so far?
My experience has been really, really good. I’ve met so many people from different countries, not just Dutch colleagues. Exploring Dutch culture has also been great—the food, the weather, and especially the cycling culture, which is very different from my home country.
Transportation here is also very different and well-organized, which I appreciate. My team at Rabobank has been very supportive, helping me with everything I need. Both Unity Staffing Group and Rabobank have been amazing to work with, and I truly appreciate all the patience and support you’ve given me.
Looking back, how has this opportunity changed your life or career so far?
This has been a huge and positive change, both for my career and for my family’s life. We now have the opportunity to live in a country with great opportunities, not only in terms of work but also education. The Netherlands is a very safe country with a strong education system, which is especially important for my child’s future.
From a professional perspective, being here allows me to improve my skills in ways I never imagined. The level of technology and knowledge among professionals here is very high, and that challenges me to grow every day.
That’s amazing! To wrap up, what’s your advice for anyone considering a similar career move. What would you say to someone thinking about working abroad, especially in a new country?
Moving abroad is a big change and a big challenge—I won’t lie about that. You have to be ready to leave behind your familiar surroundings, your family, and your culture. But if you are open to new experiences, meeting new people, and embracing new cultures, then it can be an amazing opportunity. Finding the right balance between your career and personal life is important, but if you see it as a chance to grow, I would absolutely recommend taking that step.
